Looking back

1996

1996–1997 The Foundation of DACT

DACT was established on 21 October 1996, following discussions between three existing Dutch treasury organisations: Trema, TIP and NVVT. Their representatives recognised that a fragmented treasury community would benefit from a single professional association, following the example of other countries. The founding Board consisted of six members, with Rob van der Burg (KLM) as the first Chairman, Wim van Winden (Heineken) and Robi Dattatreya (ABN AMRO) as Vice-Chairmen, Arnold Salverda (Sara Lee/DE) as Secretary, Wim Roos (Océ) as Treasurer and Peter Guliën (PGGM) responsible for professional development. In September 1997, Wim van Winden succeeded Rob van der Burg as Chairman. From the outset, DACT enjoyed the support of the Netherlands' three major banks: ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank. Senior representatives from these banks formed the first Advisory Council, providing strategic guidance, financial support and meeting facilities. By the end of its first full year, DACT had already grown to 249 members, laying the foundations for a national professional association dedicated to advancing corporate treasury in the Netherlands.

1998

Introduction of the DACT Annual Dinner at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen

Establishment of the Register Treasurer Foundation. DACT played a key role in establishing the Register Treasurer Foundation (Stichting Register Treasurer), building on its efforts in 1997 to develop a postgraduate university programme in Treasury Management. The Foundation was established to safeguard the Register Treasurer (RT) designation, accredit qualifying postgraduate programmes and maintain the official register of certified professionals. Two DACT Board members, Peter Guliën (PGGM) and Arnold Salverda (Sara Lee/DE), joined the Foundation's inaugural Board, reinforcing DACT's commitment to professional education and recognition within the treasury profession.
